SWCS hopes to raise RM300,000 from charity dinner

THE Social Welfare Council of Sarawak (SWCS) will hold its “Red Carpet Charity Dinner” at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Jan 28.
Its chairman Datuk Dr Yusoff Hanifah said all 100 tables to raise RM300,000 had been sold.
“The money will be used to pay for the operation and management of the work and services provided by SWCS and the Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (CBR) for the training, counselling and various types of rehabilitation of intellectually challenged children and young adults from 18 years old and above.

“The ultimate aim is to assist such individuals with physical and mental disabilities to become gainfully employed to survive on their own like normal people,” he told a press conference yesterday.The SWCS is allocated an annual grant of RM20,000 by the State Government while the CBR which currently has 229 intellectually challenged children incurs an annual expenditure of RM145,000.
The biggest cash sponsor for the dinner is Kenshido International Sdn Bhd which contributed RM50,000. Kenshido is the initiator of the ultimate e-learning tool for children namely Score-A programme which started its operation in Malaysia in 1999 in Kuala Lumpur.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to officiate at the dinner.
All donations and sponsorships for the dinner are tax-exempted.
All donation cheques shall be made payable to ‘Social Welfare Council of Sarawak’ only.
